Charity Drive - Ananda Marga Mission
SGRR GURMAT SCHOOL supported by the Gurdwara committee, Istri Sabha ladies, Parents and Sadh Sangat successfully held its Annual Charity Drive at the Ananda Marga Mission at Mountain View Estate on Waiyaki Way on Sunday, the 27th of September 2015.
We left for the mission at around 12pm in the Gurmat School van, two pickups and private cars. We were well received by the head of the mission and other sevadars. The food prepared by the volunteers was steaming hot and ready! The beans, rice, cooking oil and vegetables had been dropped off the previous day by SGRR members.
The head of the mission or 'Dada' as he introduced himself briefed us about the number of people they feed annually (2,000,000!) and about their schools and hospitals, support for about 800 orphans in Mombasa and university bursaries given in Nakuru. He appreciated the efforts of Gurmat School students for participating in the charity drive and advised them to continue in the same spirit in future.
Then it was lunch time! There were about a thousand children and adults from the Kangemi slums and over a hundred of us from SGRR! It was overwhelming to see so much poverty and hunger! The younger pupils from Gurmat School distributed the plates and spoons. The older students and ladies served the food, juice, biscuits, sweets and old clothes.
We left at around 3pm after saying goodbye to 'Dada' and his team. The message of our first Guruji, Siri Guru Nanak Devji of WAND KE SHAKO had clearly been put into practise by all who willingly participated in the charity drive! Our heartfelt gratitude and appreciation goes to all the contributors for their TAN, MAN and DHAN seva. May BABAJI give us the wisdom and compassion for future charity drives.
